It can feel confusing, especially if you are capable and competent in so many other areas of life. This one pattern can bring a particular kind of shame and self-loathing. The secrecy, the half-truths, the constant mental noise. The sense of living in private chaos while trying to look fine on the outside. And when stress hits, shallow breathing, tight shoulders, a racing heart, that rising sense that a drink, drugs, food, gambling or something else will take the edge off, it can feel like your choices disappear.

Hi, I’m Antonia. I’m a Sydney-based psychotherapist specialising in helping adults who feel caught in repeating patterns around alcohol, drugs, and other ways of coping that have started creating unwanted consequences.
