Below are some answers to questions I commonly get asked by my clients
Your questions answered
If drinking alcohol, using drugs or eating food is having a negative affect on your life, health, relationships, finances or employment, you may have a problem. Take a quick look at the pages of my website and see if the descriptions of various addictions and behaviours resonate. It’s common to identify with more than one issue.
Therapy absolutely can and does help. Weekly sessions allow us to look at your current issues and past history, helping you to get to know yourself differently and make better choices for your life going forwards. Good therapy is gentle, meaningful and effective.
Great question. Therapy is part of the solution. You and I work in partnership to establish the full plan that fits for you and can resolve your addiction.
The right therapist feels safe for you. Safety is personal, there is no one-size-fits-all. My practice is located in Sydney CBD, my room is comfortable and private, I adhere to ethical guidelines and I focus on earning your trust from our first meeting.
Therapy is not a quick fix. It’s part of a long-term solution and is slow and gentle. But the more committed you are, the faster the results will come.
I offer an integrated trauma-focused approach. I’m trained in a wide range of modalities including complex trauma, person-centred, narrative, CBT, existential, family systems and many more. I believe in a holistic mind-body-spirit way of working because it is evidence-based and effective.
These different titles reflect differences in training and approach. I am a psychotherapist. I do deep work. My question is never ‘what’s wrong with you?’ I ask: ‘what’s happened in your life to bring you to this point?’
Counsellors may have a variety of backgrounds including social work, nursing, employment specialist, education etc. They may offer shorter-term help and guidance with specific issues. A psychiatrist is a specialist medical doctor who can prescribe medication. A psychologist is trained in line with the medical approach and can offer diagnoses, as well as therapeutic approaches.
The conditions I specialise in working with are all rooted in relationships. I usually only offer Zoom if you are unwell or out of town.
Not yet. For now, all my clients are self-paying.
